MANIAC

BARBER & COFFEE SHOP

MONTREAL 2024

The creators of Maniac, a Montreal-based barbershop, wanted to open a second establishment that would combine a coffee shop with their original concept.

Focused on community, creativity, and culture, Maniac stands out for its desire to merge the art of grooming with coffee culture, while showcasing emerging talents and creating a space for cultural promotion.

Located in front of the iconic Parc La Fontaine, in the Plateau Mont-Royal area of Montreal, this prime location convinced Maniac to settle there, offering a true storefront presence.

From the beginning, the venue presented several key advantages: abundant natural light, an engaging level difference, and a strong connection to the outside and the community.

It quickly became clear that the space would be designed by playing with floor level changes to create two distinct areas. Upon entering, a coffee corner greets you.

With a lower ceiling, this space, illuminated by soft lighting, is energized by the activity of the baristas. Coffee lovers can stop by to enjoy their drinks or sit at the tables overlooking the barbershop area.

A pair of stairs, located on either side of the central counters, allows customers to move from the upper zone to the lower space.

The latter, dedicated to barber services, includes five barber chairs and a stretched light fabric ceiling, inspired by photographic studios.

Framed by a series of windows, this opening to the outside becomes the focal point of the second level, offering a true artistic showcase.

A palette of noble materials was chosen for this project.

Dark wood, rich in textures, dominates all the spaces, while touches of brushed and polished aluminum in the stations blend perfectly with the brown leather of the barber chairs, creating an elegant and monochrome ambiance.

The use of glossy green marble in the central counter and matte tiles on the deep green floor reinforce the unique identity of the café space

Vintage wall lights reminiscent of the luminous fares of old cars and two chrome and yellow table lamps reinforce the identity of the place.
